Boerne Bright Is Taking 2026 Off, and the Holiday Season Moves Downtown

Boerne Bright, the free walk-through Christmas lights display hosted by First Baptist Church at 631 South School Street, will not run this December. The organizers have posted that the event is "taking a year off" because of construction on the church campus and plan to return in December 2027. The display features 500,000 lights, a Bethlehem train ride and family activities, all off Main Street.

With Boerne Bright gone for a year, nearly every holiday event in Boerne this season happens in one place, along the Hill Country Mile. The schedule runs from early November through mid-December. Downtown merchants and the City have set it up as a series of weekends, and each one is smaller and more neighborly than the one before it. The best time to go depends on how much of a crowd you want.

November starts a week from today, with two shopping nights

The season begins before Thanksgiving. In an October 23 news flash, the City of Boerne listed Fall Diva Night on November 5 as the first downtown shopping evening of the season, followed by Pink Friday on November 20. According to the City, 30 local businesses are taking part in Pink Friday this year. The event includes a Pink Friday Duck Hunt, where shoppers look for hidden pink ducks at participating stores to earn prize entries.

November 5 also matters for another reason. Tickets for the Stocking Stroll, the limited ticketed shopping event on Weihnachts Weekend, go on sale that day through the Boerne Parks & Recreation portal. The 2026 price had not been posted when this was written. Diva Night and the ticket sale fall on the same date, so one day decides whether you can join the December stroll.

Dickens on Main is the busiest weekend, spread across four villages

Dickens on Main runs Friday and Saturday, November 27 and 28. The City describes it as four holiday villages with snow, live entertainment and family activities. The 2026 vendor guide places the villages here:

  • North Pole Village at Main Plaza, which hosts the gazebo, the main stage and the tree lighting
  • Tiny Tim Village on East San Antonio Street, Watt Street and at the Courthouse
  • Dickens Village at 153 South Main
  • South Pole Village at Hamby's, 437 South Main

The guide lists vendor hours as noon to 9 p.m. both days. The City's announcement says shops and restaurants along the Mile may open as early as 10 a.m. That gives you a couple of quieter morning hours before the vendors arrive.

The biggest moment is Friday at 6 p.m., when carolers and Castle Brass lead the snowy tree lighting at the Main Plaza gazebo. The Greater San Antonio Academy of Ballet performs a version of the Nutcracker in North Pole Village each afternoon. The 22-foot ice slide for children is back again, set up behind the North Pole main stage. Dickens also falls on Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday, which the City has paired with the festival as a reason to shop locally owned stores that weekend.

Dickens on Main is also the weekend that draws the most visitors. The City promotes it alongside "Hill Country stays," and its whole announcement is written for out-of-town guests. Admission, parking, shuttle and street-closure details for 2026 had not been posted on holidaysinboerne.com when this was written. Check that page the week of Thanksgiving, because the FAQ still lists last year's dates.

Weihnachts Weekend is planned around the people who live here

The next weekend is noticeably more local. The Boerne Retail & Restaurant Owners Association runs Weihnachts Weekend on December 4 and 5. It starts Friday with a Wassail Walk and Caroling Contest from 4 to 8 p.m., when participating businesses pour their own versions of wassail and carolers compete for votes.

The 39th annual Weihnachts Parade starts Saturday at 6 p.m. Organizers expect about 100 lighted floats on Main Street. The City puts the number at more than 100, and the organizers' own page says nearly 100. Organizers suggest bringing a chair for the route and say shops, breweries and bistros will stay open late. They also recommend booking dinner early for both nights.

The Stocking Stroll runs both days, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is organized by the Hill Country Mile, Boerne Parks & Recreation and the BR&ROA. Ticket holders pick up a special gift at each participating business they visit, and one ticket is good for either or both days. You can spend Saturday daytime on the stroll and stay for the parade that evening without moving your car.

Kinder Fest is the smallest and most relaxed weekend

The City of Boerne's October 23 announcement describes the final downtown weekend this way:

"The celebration continues one more weekend, December 11-13, with KinderFest, also hosted by the BR&ROA, and Christmas Market Days in Main Plaza, a perfect weekend for a more relaxed holiday vibe."

Kinder Fest is aimed at children who are almost on Christmas break, and the BR&ROA encourages ugly Christmas sweaters, Christmas pajamas and Whoville hairdos. The weekend has three parts:

  1. Cookie Crawl, at participating downtown merchants, Friday and Saturday, December 11 and 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., $30 per ticket.
  2. Santa Scavenger Hunt, at the same merchants and during the same hours, free.
  3. Christmas Market Days, a free market at Main Plaza, 100 North Main, Saturday, December 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, December 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

None of these events has a single set start time. Families can come and go over two or three days, so there is little need to plan around one big moment.

After December 13, the lights move to Highway 46

Christmas Market Days closes Sunday afternoon, December 13, and that is the last event on the downtown calendar. With Boerne Bright off this year, the large lights display that stays open after downtown wraps up is the Old West Christmas Light Fest at Enchanted Springs Ranch, 242 State Highway 46 West.

The light fest schedule follows the downtown calendar closely. It is open Friday through Sunday on November 27–29, December 4–6 and December 11–13, which are the same weekends as Dickens, Weihnachts and Kinder Fest. From December 18 through 23 it is open every night, 5 to 10 p.m. The organizers advertise lights, falling snow, Santa and music, and a new barrel train for young children this year.

The light fest charges admission, unlike Boerne Bright. General admission for ages 6 and up is $25. Military and first responders with valid ID pay $20, and children 5 and under get in free. A Family 5-Pack works out to $20 per ticket, and a 2026 Season Pass costs $37.50 and is good every night. Online prices add fees. At those prices, the season pass costs less than two general-admission visits. It is a reasonable buy for a household that plans to go once on a downtown weekend and again during the nightly run before Christmas.

Boerne Bright plans to return to South School Street in December 2027. Until then, Boerne's holiday season runs on the Hill Country Mile from November 5 to December 13 and finishes at Enchanted Springs Ranch on the night of December 23.

Many families find that a December on Main Street brings next year's holiday hosting to mind, whether that means a kitchen built for a full Christmas Eve table or a back porch where guests can gather after the parade.
